Wexford Box Cup
On the 10th of November I competed in my first tournament of the season in a new tournament opening for its first year called the Wexford Box Cup. I weighed in along with my other Club members from Enniskerry Boxing Club on the 5th and was happy enough narrowly making my weight of 75kg,weighing in at 74.8kg. That day the draw was done and I was drawn a straight Final against a local Wexford boxer Jack Murphy. Two rings were set up and as the quarter finals and semi-finals were fought throughout the week I awaited my final. On the 10th the day had arrived and I couldn't wait to get into the ring. After a good warm up of stretching and pad work I was ready to go. Using my jab and left hook I clinched the 1st round, the 2nd was closer then I would have liked but still feel I got it, in the 3rd I really began pushing forward and kept my opponent on the ropes. The atmosphere was brilliant as everyone their was screaming each of us on and the fight was named bout of the tournament. As the fight finished I knew I had won but you could never be too certain with decisions in boxing especially boxing a home fighter. I was delighted to hear a 3/2 decision be given my way. This tournament gave me great experience and will hopefully allow me to push on in the season.
Leinster Boxing
On the 18th of February I competed in my 5th Leinster Boxing Championships in Athy Co,Kildare. This is the most important part of every season because without winning the Leinsters,Munsters,Ulsters etc you are not able to progress onto the National Championships such as the All Irelands. I weighed in on the 18th at 79.5kg moving up a weight category from 75kg last year to 80kg this year. Upon receiving the draw I was delighted to be drawn a straight final against a strong boxer who I already knew. The fight would take place the following week so I began to keep up my hard training throughout the week in preparation. The morning of the fight I had to make my way up to Athy at 8am to weigh in before the fight. I was unfortunate to be one of the last bouts of the day and didn't begin warming up till 6pm that evening. Warming up I felt good and was confident with the pad work I had done. Getting into the ring I knew exactly what needed to be done and had the game plan perfectly in my head. In the first round I started strongly taking the centre of the ring and almost instantly landed a perfect right hand. In the second everything was working beautifully and felt I was really controlling the fight. Finally I the third I was able to push on and really pin my opponent to the ropes for much of the last round. Overall I was delighted with how I boxed and content picking up a 5/0 win and adding a third consecutive Leinster Title to my collection.
TY Rugby
This year I was involved in our schools TY Rugby team. At the beginning of the year we were delighted to meet our new head coach George Naoupu who formerly played for Connacht,Harlequins and Highlanders Rugby Clubs. Our season began on a high winning our first three games of the season against Pres,Newbridge and St Michaels. With limited players due to overseas trips we managed to get through the pool stages unbeaten winning all 5 games. We had the great opportunity to play our quarter-final on the back pitch of Donneybrook Stadium beating Castleknock 39-0. Moving on we were very unfortunate to lose to a strong Roscrea side. It was unfortunate to not progress to the final but the team were very happy with the season and what we've learned throughout in
